Music Therapy
Why choose this program?
The Music Therapy program at JU draws upon your musicianship, empathy, patience, persistence, creativity, dedication and personal commitment to become a board-certified music therapist. The program is designed for you to develop entry-level competencies required as a professional music therapist, prepare you for a clinical internship and ultimately pass the national board certification exam. We encourage you to think critically so that you can learn to participate and serve as a clinician, treatment team member, and active professional.

Bachelor of Music in Music TherapyCurriculum
Courses include foundational music study in applied lessons, ensembles, theory, aural skills, and history as well as skill-oriented study in conducting, guitar, hand drumming and music technology. Music Therapy courses include broad coverage in Psychology, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Music Therapy Methods and Practicums, Improvisation for Music Therapy, a Senior Seminar and Clinical Internship placement with prominent local health centers and music therapists.
Successful completion of the Internship Program and passing the national Board Certification exam will designate graduates as a Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC).
